A story is told about a man who, while walking in the desert, heard a voice saying "pick up some pebbles and put
them in your pocket, and tomorrow you will be both sorry and glad". The man obeyed. he stooped down and picked up a handful
of pebbles and put them in his pocket. the next morning he reached into his pocket and found diamonds and rubies and emeralds.
And he was both glad and sorry. glad that he had taken some; sorry that he had not taken more.
And it is with education. that is why we at the Bicol University College of Business, Economics and Management (BUCBEM),
continue to provide the best education that we could possibly offer to those who are able and willing to be educated. Our
thrust is towards providing holistic development to every student that will step inside the portals of the university, anchored
on its ideals: scholarship, leadership, character and service.
As the name of our college suggests, our focus is offering of education along the disciplines of business, economics
and management. For our part, we are expected to turn out top-caliber graduates who will not only contribute significantly
in the regional an national development, but are also expected to make a name for them,selves globally. The importance of
business education in the regional, national and global arena has been well underscored. That is why, as much as possible,
every should "pick up all the pebbles that he can handle and put them inside his pocket" so that not only will he
experience the bliss of a truly educated person, he can also make a dent on our over-all efforts to cure most of the nagging
societal ills.
What London B. Johnson said decades ago is truer and more meaningful now than when it was first uttered, "the
answer for all our national problems -- the answer for all the problems of the world -- comes in a single word, EDUCATION".
